NaNoWriMo, Anyone?

As an addendum to the last post…I have been ignoring my dissertation for two years.  According to academic tradition, in order to get promoted or gain credibility, I’m supposed to turn it into a book or a series of articles.  But I haven’t.  You know why.

NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month:  see their website at http://nanowrimo.org.  People spend 30 days furiously trying to crank out 50,000 words, the equivalent of a short novel.  It’s a really neat community of people interested in writing, much like people on WordPress.

I’m not writing a novel, though I really want to!  I’m breaking the rules a bit and using NaNoWriMo as motivation to dust off my dissertation and revise it and send it to a publisher by the end of November.  I’ll never get an academic job until I do something with it.

Are any of you familiar with WriMo?  Have you done it?  Would you like to join me? I am “TFoz” over there, too.
